Forrester, notes that in online shops, 43% of customers immediately turn to the search functionality so we know that search drives ecommerce success and revenue. At the same time, there are similar tendencies for customers of other sectors such as news websites, forums and download directories among others. ElasticProbe knows the customers desires and aims to help shape the Wordpress search experience to the customers’ needs.

ElasticProbe is a SaaS search service for Wordpress ecosystem. It is backed by the fast and powerful ElasticSearch engine.

ElasticProbe service has two main components. An opensource Wordpress plugin and the service backend. The plugin is compatible with self deployed ElasticSearch instances. Installing, securing and optimizing the instance is  in this case is in the hands of the website owner completely. Lets quickly enumerate some of the ElasticProbe features.

Features

Compared to default Wordpress search, ElasticProbe has the following features:
  • Offloaded search: In websites with large amount of data (product, post or article), search functionality is slow and resource intensive. The plugin offloads the search processing to an external server running ElasticSearch. By doing this, search becomes faster and at the same time doesn’t consume your server hardware resources.
  • Fuzzy search: Do you like fuzzy search? Who doesn’t! These days many customers are on mobile devices and misspelling shouldn’t be a barrier to search. What the user types is not important intention is the king. Refer to Did you mean and Synonyms section for more information.
  •  Weighted search: Every part of an article or product doesn’t have the same importance! The website owner decides if he/she wants to put emphasis on a product title, SKU or excerpt. Refer to Search field weighting for more information.

There are still other features. To name a few:

  • Woocommerce compatibility: The plugin is completely compatible with WooCommerce and it can be used to filter and search products and even recommend related ones.
  • Widgets: The plugin widgets customize the search experience.
